California
April 2000
Day 3
Morning started with a drive up the Pacific Coast Highway. Looking at the Pacific Ocean, we saw a couple of dolphins and (we think) a whale, although we were too far for a good view.
 | After an hour and a half, we got to the Santa Barbara Mission. | |
| Then lunch in Santa Barbara. |
SB is a very cute place, with lots of small buildings with orange tile roofs, and a free observation deck on the fourth floor clocktower of the courthouse.

| |
 | Landscape pictures never come out well... | |
Up the San Marcos Path, through the Santa Barbara Mountains, 40 min to Solvang, a Scandinavian town with a tourist trap.

2 hours later, we arrive at San Simeon for the night. Called Hal, left a message about my arrival in SF.
