California

April 2000

Day 1

Flight to Los Angeles was mostly uneventful. Had to change planes in Chicago, but it was no big deal.

The Kosher (beef) meal on the plane was Kosher for Passover, complete with Matzah -- three slices wrapped together. The middle slice was broken in half. I don't know if it was intentional, but it was a nice touch. I couldn't find any kid to give the Afikomen to.

The day is pretty cloudy, so there's not much to see out the windows. I've got two seats (aisle/window) to myself, and I'm stretched out and reading.

At 12:33 (this is still Eastern time), we flew over the Rocky Mountains. From this view, they were very sudden -- flat, flat, flat, mountains. We were just approaching some of the snow-capped ones when the clouds rolled back in. I saw a few of them, though.

The welcome "dinner" was one drink and some cheese-n-crackers, so I'll need to find some food. I hope there's a bar nearby that serves burgers or something. I think I'm the youngest person here by about 20 years.

The hotel bar is closed on Saturday nights. Dinner was Chinese takeout.
